First iHerb haul : budget-friendly skincare products

I’ve been wanting to place an iHerb order for a while and after asking for feedbacks from fellow green bloggers on Twitter, as well as reading Katie’s informative post on iHerb and Vitacost (here), I decided to take the plunge and place an order.

I don’t know if it’s beginner’s luck, but the expericence turned out great! Firstly, you get 10% off your first order, which paid for the shipping costs (Yes!) Secondly, it was shipped in no time, and I received it in less than a week (from overseas!) Lastly, the impost fees I had to pay were ridiculously small (a first, I tell you!) I got 5 items that had been on my radar for some time, because they seem unavailable or hard to get in Europe. It’s my first time trying these brands as well.

1. Acure balancing rose + red tea facial toner
Containing witch hazel, rooibos and calendula, all those ingredients contribute in regulating oil excess and soothe the skin, which is exactly what I’m hoping it will do to my skin. The hot and humid weather is making my oily skin go loco at the moment.
2. Celsus Bio-Intelligence scar cream
Self-explanatory. Free from parabens, petroleums and artificial preservatives, it contains 22 active ingredients – among them Tamanu oil, Gotu Kola, Calendula, Comfrey, Plantain, Cotton Thistle – to help reduce the appearance of scars, burns and marks. This one was the most expensive (18$) and the product is quite small (20g) but I heard lots of positive reviews. I’ll report back if I see any differences in my skin.
3. Acure Facial Cleanser superfruit + chlorella
The quest for my holy-grail cleanser continues. I’m giving gel cleansers another go as they tend to dry out my skin. However, I heard rave reviews about Acure Organics, and Chlorella is known for its detoxifying properties, so I’m eager to see if I notice any results.
4. Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel alcohol-free toner
Yes, it’s another toner but what can I say, I really enjoy toners in my skincare routine 🙂 I initially wanted to try the Lavender scented, but it was unavailable (they also have a peach one, but it’s not alcohol-free, unfortunately) At 8$ the 355ml, I didn’t really think twice when adding it in my shopping basket. Containing infused rose water, certified organic aloe vera and un-distilled witch hazel, I’m excited to start using it.
5. Desert Essence Red Raspberry Shampoo
My love for raspberries has no limit haha. I tried the shampoo as soon as I got it. The scent is berrylicious, and my hair felt really soft and nourished after a first use. Really impressed with this shampoo, as it’s void of nasty chemicals and it was only 6 dollars.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you like to order on iHerb?

Take care,

Liz

  • Looks like you got some great stuff! I think there's always at least one Acure product in every iherb order I place 🙂

    • Thank you Caitie, I'm excited to try all of them! If Acure is approved by you, I know it's good stuff then 🙂 xx

    • Thanks Jen! I felt the same way haha. I finally gave in, considering how affordable these were, especially the toner and shampoo. For your first order you get 10% off, so it could be worth trying once (and have an approx. idea of the amount of import fees). xx

    • Thanks! I know, I saw your celsus giveaway but I had already placed the order. If you liked it, I'm sure I'll like the cream as well 🙂 xx

  • Like Jen, I've not tried them before. I'm always a bit twitchy about getting stung for import taxes so good to know that this doesn't seem to apply to iHerb. x

    • I was reluctant as well because of those naughty import taxes (sometimes, they really get out of hands) I'm not in the UK, so I don't know how much they would charge, but Katie (katievibes.com) did a great post about it. Some products are really affordable and hard to find elsewhere, so it might be worth trying once 🙂 xx

  • Yay for iHerb! And thank you for linking my post 🙂 I have the Thayers toner and it's so refreshing and simple for when your skin is aching for something uncomplicated!

I love raspberries, I might have to give the Desert Essence shampoo a go as it's cheaper and easier to get hold of compared to my Acure faves! X

    • My pleasure! Your post was really useful, so thank you my dear 🙂 If you like raspberries, you are going to love this shampoo, my hair was super soft afterwards, and I couldn't stop touching it (which is bad, because I'll make them greasy again haha) xx

    • Thank you Mayah! I needed to find a replacement of my beloved SW basics toner, and I heard great things about these (+ they are much more affordable). Thayer's toner also smells amazing! Enjoy your iherb exploration 😉 xx

  • Great order Liz!

  • Oh I love iHerb! I can't sing its praises enough. And funnily enough, I wanted the rose Thayer's but could only get the lavender…I don't know if was actually doing anything to my skin (hormonal breakouts at the moment so I've stripped way back in terms of what I'm using) but it was refreshing and I love the packaging. I've had Dessert Essence on my wishlist for a while so I should finally take the plunge. I'm eyeing up the coconut, but I must see what the others smell like too. I smelled coconut in a local health shop (yeah, I'm one of those people that goes to these places and never buys anything) but never thought to try others.

  • I haven't tried iHerb yet, but along with vitacost it's on my shops to do… I've tried the Thayers and it's a handy item to have around – especially when you're feeling super lazy of an evening and too tired for any double cleansing malarky (me most evenings atm!) Thanks for sharing your experience – nice haul 🙂 xx
