Ilia all day every day! Ilia Beauty Around the World lipstick review + swatches (ft. Neon Angel + Ink Pot)

The models of today’s shoot – left to right: Neon Angel, Around the World and Ink Pot 😉
A little more than a week ago, I welcomed a new addition to my Ilia lipstick family, namely “Around the World”. Exclusively sold on Net-à-porter, it was inspired by 2014’s Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid. As soon as I got my hands on it, I immediately brought out two other Ilia lipsticks to play with, i.e “Neon Angel” which is a buildable hot pink and “Ink Pot”, a deep vampy violet. All three are part of Ilia’s lipstick collection, not lip conditioners. While browsing through my Pantone postcards, I came across the exact match of “Around the World” so I had to include it in the pictures.

My impressions of “Around the World”
Just like Ilia’s latest lip gloss “Back to Life”, “Around the World is also inspired by Radiant Orchid, but it’s not as bright and punchy as “Back
to Life”. Ilia never seems to disappoint in terms of colors, “Around the World” is simply a gorgeous wearable light purple. It’s a flattering shade, and the blue undertones have a tendency to whiten the teeth so that’s always a plus – as long as your teeth are not as white as Ross Geller’s in that famous F.r.i.e.n.d.s episode 😉  It’s super smooth, non-sticky, and the color stays put for several hours.   Unlike “Neon Angel” and “Ink Pot”, “Around the World” is a bit sheerer, several coats are necessary for a stronger color to show. I don’t know if it’s simply an impression, but I’ve also found “Around the World” to be more moisturizing than Ilia’s usual lipsticks. It actually reminded me more of their lip conditioners, in terms of texture and formula. However, I checked the ingredients and nothing seemed to have been altered.

Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Beeswax (Cera Alba)*, Triisostearyl Citrate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca) Starch *, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Fruit Oil, Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491), Red 7 CI15850, Red 28 CI45410, Yellow 5 CI19140. *Certified Organic Ingredients.

Neon Angel doesn’t translate as a magenta pink on my lips after a first use, it looks more like a bubblegum pink. However depth of colour can be built with several layers : add a few coats to warm up the color and you’ll quickly get something more vivid. I only wish Ink Pot was a lip crayon instead of a lipstick. Because of its daring color and strong pigmentation, it requires extra attention
when applied (see messy swatch for evidence haha)  To me, “Around the World” is the perfect combination of “Neon Angel” and “Ink Pot” : if both are too daring for you, go with “Around the World” for a less matte finish. It’s definitely a hit for me, as it’s a subtle yet flattering purple. Also it doesn’t settle into fine lines as much as you’d think, so it won’t require you to prep your lips systematically (exfoliation & lip balm) before use.

In the meantime, I can’t wait to continue playing with my Ilia lispticks like I did for this post (here), where I mixed different colors together. The more the merrier as they say!
Around the World is exclusively available on Net-à-porter
– for now – (here) and retails for the price of 24 Euros.

What are your current favorite lipticks?

Take care,

Liz

  • Love it, I do prefer the look of neon angel but that is probably because I actually tried it and know what it looks like on me 😉 I do find that different colours vary in moisture probably due to pigments used, the most moisturising is In paradise the least is Lust for life from the ones I have xx
