1. What does AEM stand for?
AEM is a magic word. Its a new form of „ i am“. The general concept of beauty is characterized by advertising and edited photos. We often forget that beauty is a feeling to ourselves. To say: „As much as I am it is true, it`s perfect“, and carry this feeling is truly beautiful. The vanity of AEM should support this feeling. Enjoy pure organic cosmetics with a conscience, and protect and maintain the skin – while living without regret.
2. Can you tell us a little bit about you, and your motivations to create your own skincare brand.
I grew up with natural cosmetics. My parents always paid attention to ingredients in cosmetics and food. This awareness, I am very grateful for them. I already have in my youth started my cosmetics manufacturer. I have read many books about plants and herbs and their effects. After my studies at the university, I knew that I wanted to be a foundress and start my own company. It took a long time until the products were ready and the way I really wanted them to be. But I m sure that all the work was worth it.
3. Your line currently comprises of 4 products. Are you planning on expanding the line, or simply aiming for a minimalistic (but effective) range?
I really want to develop more new products. I have so many great ideas. I love face masks and gentle scrubs. In my cosmetic treatments, once a week, I use the products of AEM and mix my own face masks and peelings. Ginger and turmeric are my favorite herbs. I love traditional Indian and
Japanese beauty recipes. Coconut oil also is one of my favorites. It is a true and beautiful antiaging product. I wish that AEM will grow and new surprises will be added. Make up is something I’m very interested in as well. The current products are very versatile. The Lights Off Oil is a perfect face mask with some healing earth and tumeric. At night, I use the Oil in my hair tips. In the summertime, I mix the Lights On with some thermal water to have a light milk for hot days.
4. AEM is vegan, made in Germany and all the ingredients are coming from the region. Was this a conscious decision?
That was definitely a conscious decision. I think animal products have nothing to do in cosmetics. Animals are not intended to serve for our beauty. It is simply unnecessary, and there are wonderful alternatives. Ingredients have a certain energy, and they come in contact with my skin every day. Therfore in AEM I use regional mineral water instead of laboratory water. Quality is one of the main features of AEM, which has a price. But because of the quality, the product can removed from the dispenser to 99%. It remains germfree and fresh for long, no air can come into the product. Every detail is thought through.
5. You label yourself as “organic detox cosmetic” and also “next generation”. What do these terms mean to you?
AEM is 100% organic, we are against green brainwashing. Unfortunately, the certifications are all very expensive. We prefer to invest in good quality. Our products are reviewed under the standards of natural cosmetics. In addition, we use organic ingredients. Our devises is anti-aging by cell protection and the natural activation of the cells. We use a special detox active substance. It is called Sarise Bio. Sarise Bio contains an extract of bitter cherry stems and summer savory. Its a 100% natural phytocomplex that reduces oxidative stress. The skin cells thereby produce more collagen. Sarise has anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective smoothing. We also use para cress. The spilanthol contained in paracress is a natural, purely herbal drug. This drug especially smoothes mimic wrinkles. This plant drug relaxes the facial features and provides visibly smoothed skin.
6. The design of AEM is also marvellous! Does the aesthetic side play an important part for you as well?
The design plays a major role. It was very important that not only the content is nice, but the case too. I wanted to create a contemporary packaging which also presents its origin. AEM is purist, urban and sexy. I think that good natural cosmetics should be elegant and glamorous, without being untrustworthy.
7. Do you have a holy grail beauty product (skincare/makeup)?
I love to go to the sauna with a selfmade peeling. I use sea salt and coconut oil. I love hair oils from John Masters. Regular manicure and pedicure are a must for me.
Now that you a more detailed idea about the ethic and aesthetics behind AEM, I can share my thoughts on them.
With all those infos in mind, I can share with you my thoughts on the entire skincare line.
Lights On Detoxifying Day Cream
This one was tested by Mama Green Spirit, so I’m just the messenger here. It’s a soothing, yet intensely hydrating moisturizer. In terms of fragrance, the day cream doesn’t have a particular smell, and she didn’t experience any reactions to it. She says her skin looks supple, soft and balanced all day. She also finds it perfect as a makeup base, because it doesn’t feel sticky, and it preps the skin for foundation (FYI, she uses Dr. Hauschka’s translucent bronzing tint). It’s got Mama’s stamp of approval, so now I know what I’ll get her for her birthday 😉 If your skin is not reactive to coconut oil – unlike me – or any other ingredients listed, you might find a keeper in this day cream.
Ingredients: aqua (water), alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, glycerin ,glyceryl stearate citrate, cetyl alcohol, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) bark/leaf/twig extract, parfum (fragrance), butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, prunus cerasus ( bitter cherry) stalk extract, xanthan gum, limonene, glyceryl caprylate, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) oil, tocopherol, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, lactic acid, acmella oleracea extract, lavandula angustifolia oil, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower/leaf extract, satureia hortensis leaf extract, sodium phytate, linalool, citral
Anti-Oxidant Nectar: High Concentrated Detox Serum
I apply this serum for a little extra boost, in the nighttime. You can do it once a week. It has gel consistency. It feels a bit drying at first, but the feeling quickly vanishes. What’s so good about is that you wake up with a brighter, softer complexion and more plump skin. It’s the first time I’m using sodium hyaluronate, which is supposed to promote blood microcirculation and nutrient absorption, which temporarily smoothes your skin and appeases fines lines. Therefore, I do believe that the serum might not be really necessary for younger skin, but anyone looking for a weekly treatment to refresh the skin will enjoy the detox serum.
Ingredients: aqua (water), alcohol, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, prunus cerasus (bitter cherry) stalk extract, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, citric acid, satureia hortensis leaf extract, citrus aurantium amara flower oil
All eyes on me: Organic advanced eye cream
Rich, decadent and truly effective. It’s effortlessly absorbed, and non-greasy, which is what I always expect from an eye cream. I only need to pat a tiny amount under and around the eye to keep the skin supple and bright. It’s meant to nourish and restore moisture-loss and that’s exactly what it does. It won’t do much against dark eye circles, but it keeps premature fine lines at bay.
Ingredients: aqua (water), glyceryl stearate se, alcohol, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, argania spinosa kernel oil, glycerin, helianthus annuus
(sunflower) seed oil, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, parfum (fragrance), cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, prunus cerasus ( bitter cherry) stalk extract, limonene, xanthan gum, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, lavandula angustifolia oil, satureia hortensis leaf extract, sodium phytate, linalool, tocopherol, citral, sodium hyaluronate
In short, AEM organic detox cosmetics is as good as it looks! A chic, urban line with an eco-conscious twist. My favorite were Lights Off and All eyes on Me, however I’m pretty sure that everyone will find what they’re looking for in AEM’s line. I’m excited to see what the future holds for AEM, because the quality is simply amazing.
Have you heard of AEM? What products would you most likely try?
Take care,
Liz
