Soft and glowing skin with the Detox Market February box x SkinOwl

I recently received the February box from The Detox Market and what was my surprise when I found out that the brand of the month was SkinOwl!

Inside a Detox Market box <3

I adore SkinOwl and even more so, Annie Tevelin the mastermind behind it. You can see my SkinOwl collection on Instagram since it was Annie’s birthday a few days ago (here).
I love the ease and simplicity of the brand. Don’t be fooled though, the ingredients are cleverly chosen and noticeable results will show up on your skin by remaining consistent in your routine.

What’s inside the Detox box?

  • MAQUI BERRY BEAUTY WHIP

The name of the product says it all, it’s a mask/primer/moisturizer hybrid with a lush buttery texture. No risk of staining the bathroom, it applies and washes off effortlessly. The star ingredient is Maqui berry – which is high (even considered the highest source) in antioxidants. This is one of the most recent creations by SkinOwl. It is not a clarifying mask, but a plumping, moisture-boosting product. I love that it contains MSM, a natural form of organic sulfur which is beneficial for skin, nails, and hair. With an aloe vera base (known for its soothing effects), it also contains nourishing organic oils such as olive, jojoba, evening primrose and a myriad of other plant extracts such as Rooibos, lavender, calendula, green tea, white tea. After looking up DMAE which I had not been familiar with before, I found myself a bit confused as there were conflicting theories about its efficiency in skincare but this Truth in Aging article seems to come to the conclusion that is valid in skincare. I’ve been sharing it with my mom who’s in love with it because it works wonders for demanding skin. It quenches dry skin like a champ. For me, the beauty whip works better as a winter mask but it would be too nourishing for me in the spring/summer. It reminds me in terms of texture and effect of Madara’s SOS mask. Both are terrific for dry, winter skin. Also great to apply after a warm shower/bath to repair to avoid disrupting the moisture barrier of your skin. Annie’s tip is to mix it with the beauty drops to get a moisture-booster and makeup primer. She also recommends to keep it in the fridge to experience the cooling sensation – particularly efficient on warmer days.

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Leaf Juice (Aloe Barbadensis), Organic Olive Fruit Oil (Olea Europaea), Organic Alcohol, Organic Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), Emulsifying Wax (Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Lecithin), Stearic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, MSM (Dimethyl Sulfone), DMAE Bitartrate (Dimethylaminoethanol Bitartrate), Rosehip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina), Organic Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera Biennis), Organic Rooibos Leaf Extract (Aspalathus Linearis), Organic Lavender Extract (Lavandula Angustifolia), Maqui Berry (Aristotelia chilensis) Concentrate Powder, Organic Calendula Flower Extract (Calendula Officinalis), Organic Green Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia Sinensis), Organic White Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia Sinensis), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus Annuus), Xanthan Gum

  • GERANIUM BEAUTY DROPS

The beauty drops are amongst my favorite creations from SkinOwl, I love how they contain fewer ingredients (only two) but can be mixed up with other products of her range. The Geranium beauty drops are made with argan oil, infused with rose geranium oil. It is great to balance and decongest clogged skin but also useful for dehydrated skin. Since I have several beauty drops, I like to mix them up, for instance, I do a lavender-geranium cocktail when I feel my skin inflamed and fussy. With SkinOwl, you almost step into DIY-territory, but the safe kind 😉 It allows you to personalize your skincare routine without wreaking havoc on your skin.

  • LOVEY DOVEY BEAUTY STEAM

A must-have for a little spa session at home. Floral face steams have amazing benefits both for skin and mind. It opens your pores and promotes circulation for a clear, glowing and revigorated complexion. This is an exclusive edition as you can only find on Skin Owl’s website the Marigold Glow.

Makes me want to dive into it.

How to get a full SkinOwl experience thanks to the Detox Market box?

Skinowl’s motto is putting self-care into skincare and this is how I’m using the three products in the Detox Market box on a cold and exhausting day. I live in the city and there are construction sites at every corner because there are setting up a tramway and renovating/mounting buildings…Needless to say after a long day outside, I can feel the tension weighing on my shoulders but also on my skin. (I’m a big walker and I barely take the car so my skin is exposed to pollution).

Once at home, I remove my makeup and grime by double cleansing. I get comfy. I put on some funky music (not too loud, though just enough to loosen up and feel the tension go away). I start with a lovey-dovey beauty face steam for 5 minutes. Followed by drinking a glass of water for hydration. You can either mix a couple of beauty drops with the maqui berry beauty whip and leave it on as an overnight nourishing treatment or you can use Maqui berry beauty whip as a face mask for a soft and balanced complexion. I tend to use it as a mask as I have oily skin but dry skin will benefit immensely from using the Beauty Whip as a moisturizer. I wash it off after a couple of minutes. (10-15 minutes but you can keep it for 30 minutes if you feel the need to). The result? Buttery soft cheeks and a glowing forehead hehe. I finish off by applying a couple of Geranium beauty drops. Prior to massaging it onto my face, I love to smell the herbal aroma and I warm up the oil in my hands by rubbing my hands together.  I really try to take these 10-15 minutes for myself, by myself.

The Detox Market’s cool touch: a Q&A with the founder.

I also love the little founder Q&A that comes in the Detox Market box. I find this touch really thoughtful. and you get to have a glimpse of a founder’s personality. In the same vein of what I wanted to highlight in my previous post about green beauty and eco founders – you get to see the soul behind the business which is something particularly true in the green industry. When you read Annie’s answers, it is hard not to love her, her party trick made me laugh out loud – I want to meet Kimmy!

For my US readers, the box retails at $49.95 (value of $115!) so it’s a really good deal. If you order a 3-month-subscription, the price drops at $44.95. Each box has a minimum $90 value with complimentary shipping. It ships the first week of each month via USPS Priority Mail (1-3 business days), or as soon as it’s ordered while supplies last. With the February box, it’s an unmissable occasion to be all lovey-dovey with your skin and yourself. I highly recommend it as you get introduced to fantastic brands that bring their A-game. The box would also make a gorgeous birthday gift for a loved one that deserves some pampering/TLC as you can definitely create a beauty routine with the products included in the Detox Market box.

You can order it (here)

What did you think of the February Detox Box?

Take care
